Tell the practitioner before lip filler if you have recurrent cold sores. An injection around the lips may trigger a recurrence in some people, and treatment is postponed during an active cold sore or other infection.

When is treatment postponed?
Treatment is postponed if there is an active blister, broken skin, inflammation or infection near the lips.

What should you monitor afterwards?
Swelling, tenderness and small bruises can be normal injection reactions. Familiar tingling, burning and later blisters may suggest a cold-sore recurrence.
