Recognising and assessing change
Lip filler migration: what does it mean?
Migration describes filler appearing outside the intended treatment area. Fresh swelling and unevenness are not automatically migration.

What can migration look like?
It may appear as fullness or a ridge beyond the lip border. Photos alone cannot confirm the cause.
Which factors may contribute?
Anatomy, existing filler, product, technique, amount and overly frequent treatment may influence the risk.
How is risk reduced?
Avoid unnecessary, frequent filling and allow tissue to settle before adding more product.
What if I suspect migration?
Do not massage or dissolve anything yourself. Arrange an assessment after acute swelling has settled.
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to common questions
Why can the lips look uneven immediately afterwards?
Swelling may differ from side to side, so the result and possible correction are not assessed immediately.
Can filler migrate?
Filler can sometimes appear beyond the intended area. Anatomy, previous filler, amount and overly frequent treatment may affect the risk.
Can lip filler be dissolved?
Hyaluronic-acid filler may sometimes be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Dissolving also has risks and requires professional assessment.
